Dental Exams & Checkups
WHAT IS DENTAL EXAMS & CHECKUPS?
The best dental work is the work you never need — and a thorough exam is how you avoid it.
A comprehensive dental exam at LUMI Dental in Boca Raton is far more than a quick visual check. It is a systematic, detailed evaluation of every component of your oral health, teeth, gums, bite, jaw, and soft tissues, combined with an honest conversation about what we find and what it means for your long-term health. We believe that patients who understand their oral health are better equipped to protect it. That is why every exam at LUMI Dental includes a thorough explanation of every finding.
Your comprehensive exam includes a tooth by tooth assessment for decay, wear, and damage; a detailed evaluation of gum tissue and bone levels; a bite and jaw joint assessment; digital X-rays interpreted in clinical context; and an oral cancer screening. We also review your dental and medical history, because the health of your mouth is deeply connected to the health of your body. Your exam schedule is tailored to your individual risk profile, not applied uniformly regardless of your clinical picture.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING A DENTAL EXAMS & CHECKUPS TREATMENT?
Your comprehensive exam at LUMI Dental takes 45 minutes to an hour for established patients, longer for new patients whose full records are being established for the first time. We combine the exam with a professional cleaning in most cases. After the clinical evaluation, we sit down with you and walk through our findings clearly and honestly. If we identify a concern, we explain what it is, what the options are, and what the consequences of treating or monitoring it look like. You leave with full clarity about the state of your oral health.
OUR APPROACH TO DENTAL EXAMS & CHECKUPS
At LUMI Dental, dental exams are unhurried and thorough. We do not have a volume-driven schedule that requires us to rush through patient evaluations. Your exam is your time, and we use it fully. We present recommendations based on clinical evidence and your specific situation, not on treatment volume. If the right recommendation is to monitor something over time rather than treat it immediately, that is exactly what we recommend. Our practice is built on trust, and trust is built one honest conversation at a time.

Your smile deserves attention today, not tomorrow.

How often should I have a dental exam?
Most patients benefit from a comprehensive exam and cleaning twice per year. Patients with gum disease, high decay risk, or other specific concerns may benefit from more frequent visits.
What if I have not been to a dentist in a long time?
We welcome patients returning to dental care after a gap. We approach every new patient with respect and without judgment, and we take extra care to ensure you feel comfortable and fully informed.
What do dental X-rays show that an exam cannot?
X-rays reveal cavities between teeth, bone levels, root anatomy, infections, and issues beneath existing restorations, all invisible to clinical examination alone. They are an essential diagnostic complement.
What happens if a problem is found during my exam?
We discuss the finding clearly, explain the options for treatment or monitoring, and provide a written plan with associated costs. There is no pressure to proceed immediately, you decide the pace of your own care.
Can I come in just for a cleaning without an exam?
A cleaning is most valuable when paired with an exam. Cleaning without assessing health can miss problems that cleaning alone cannot address. We recommend combining both for the full benefit of every visit.
