Wisdom Teeth Removal
WHAT IS WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL?
Wisdom teeth are often a problem waiting to happen. Addressing them on your terms is always better than addressing them in crisis.
Wisdom teeth, the third molars that typically develop in the late teens and early twenties, are the most commonly extracted teeth in dentistry. Modern human jaws frequently do not have adequate space for these final four teeth to erupt properly, leading to impaction, infection, crowding of the adjacent teeth, and damage to the roots of the second molars. At LUMI Dental in Boca Raton, wisdom tooth removal is performed with thorough pre-surgical imaging, precise surgical technique, and comprehensive post-operative support.
Not all wisdom teeth require removal. We evaluate each patient’s case individually and recommend extraction only when there is a clear clinical reason, impaction, infection risk, crowding, cyst development, or damage to adjacent structures. We do not recommend removal prophylactically without clinical evidence. When removal is indicated, earlier is generally better: roots are less fully formed in the late teens and early twenties, which typically means a simpler procedure and a faster recovery than the same extraction performed later.
BENEFITS OF WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL
- Evidence-based recommendation, wisdom teeth are removed when clinical indicators support it, not routinely.
- Pre-surgical CT or panoramic imaging maps the exact position of each tooth relative to adjacent structures.
- Thorough surgical technique minimizes trauma and supports faster healing.
- Sedation options available for patients who prefer a more relaxed surgical experience.
- Comprehensive post-operative instructions and follow-up to support a smooth recovery.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING A WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL TREATMENT?
Pre surgical imaging is reviewed with you at a consultation appointment so you understand exactly what is involved before the procedure date. The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia with sedation available. Recovery typically involves several days of soreness and swelling managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain relief, a soft food diet, and gentle activity. Most patients feel significantly better within four to five days. A follow-up appointment at approximately one week confirms healing is progressing normally.
OUR APPROACH TO WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL
At LUMI Dental, wisdom tooth removal begins with the most accurate pre surgical imaging appropriate for each case. Panoramic X-rays provide an overview; cone beam CT is recommended when the proximity of the inferior alveolar nerve or other critical structures warrants more detailed three-dimensional planning. We review the imaging with you and explain clearly which teeth we recommend removing, why, and what the procedure will involve. We do not book the surgery until you have that conversation and feel fully prepared.

Your smile deserves attention today, not tomorrow.

At what age should wisdom teeth be removed?
When removal is indicated, earlier is generally preferable. Roots are less developed in the late teens and early twenties, which typically means a simpler extraction and faster healing. Wisdom teeth can be removed at any age when clinically necessary.
Do all four wisdom teeth need to be removed at once?
Not necessarily. We assess each tooth individually and recommend removal for those with clinical indications. Removing all indicated teeth at once consolidates the surgical experience and recovery into a single event.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?
Most patients feel significantly better within four to five days. Full soft tissue healing takes two to three weeks. We provide complete recovery guidance and monitor healing at a follow-up appointment.
What are signs of a complication after wisdom tooth removal?
Contact our office if you experience increasing pain after day three or four, worsening swelling, fever, persistent bad taste or odor, or numbness in the lip, chin, or tongue. Most recoveries proceed without complication, but we want to hear from you if anything concerns you.
How long does the procedure take?
Procedure time varies based on the number of teeth and their position. Straightforward extractions may take 20 to 30 minutes. More complex impactions require more time. We provide an estimate at your pre-surgical consultation.
