Dental Crowns
WHAT IS DENTAL CROWNS?
A damaged tooth is not a lost tooth. With the right restoration, it can last decades more.
A dental crown is a full coverage restoration that encases the entire visible portion of a damaged or compromised tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and appearance in a single comprehensive procedure. At LUMI Dental in Boca Raton, every crown is custom fabricated from premium ceramic or zirconia materials that closely mimic the optical properties of natural enamel, providing a restoration that is both clinically durable and aesthetically indistinguishable from the surrounding teeth.
Crowns are recommended when a tooth has a cavity too large for a filling to restore reliably, when a tooth is cracked or fractured, following root canal therapy, when a tooth is significantly worn, or when a crown is needed to anchor a bridge or complete an implant. The crown preparation process at LUMI Dental preserves as much healthy tooth structure as the clinical situation allows, and every crown is fitted and adjusted with meticulous attention to bite accuracy and aesthetic integration before permanent cementation.
BENEFITS OF DENTAL CROWNS

- Premium ceramic or zirconia materials that are strong, stain resistant, and visually natural.
- Restores full chewing function and eliminates the avoidance habits damaged teeth create.
- Precisely fitted to the exact contours of the prepared tooth for a secure, accurate margin.
- With good care, dental crowns typically last 10 to 15 years or significantly longer.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING A DENTAL CROWNS TREATMENT?
Crown treatment at LUMI Dental involves two appointments approximately two weeks apart. At the first visit, the tooth is prepared under local anesthesia, digital impressions are taken, and a temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth during fabrication. At the delivery appointment, the permanent crown is seated, checked for fit and bite alignment, and permanently cemented. Post delivery sensitivity is normal and temporary. We verify your complete comfort with the result before closing the appointment.
OUR APPROACH TO DENTAL CROWNS
At LUMI Dental, crown treatment begins with a clinical evaluation to confirm the crown is the most appropriate restoration for the situation and that the underlying tooth structure can support it. We never place a crown without clinical justification. Material selection, ceramic, zirconia, or lithium disilicate, is discussed with you based on the location of the tooth and its specific clinical demands. Every crown is held to the same aesthetic and clinical standard before it is placed in your mouth.

Your smile deserves attention today, not tomorrow.

How long does a dental crown last?
With proper care, dental crowns typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. Zirconia crowns in particular are extremely durable and can last significantly longer in the right conditions.
Does getting a crown hurt?
Crown preparation is performed under local anesthesia and is generally comfortable. Mild soreness around the treated area for a few days following is normal and manageable.
Can a crowned tooth still get a cavity?
The crown itself cannot decay, but the margin where the crown meets the tooth at the gum line is susceptible to cavities if oral hygiene is not maintained. Regular brushing, flossing, and cleanings protect the crown margin.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
In most cases, yes. Root canal treatment makes the tooth more brittle over time. A crown protects the treated tooth from fracture and significantly extends its functional lifespan.
What material is best for a dental crown?
The best material depends on the tooth location and clinical requirements. Zirconia offers exceptional strength for posterior teeth. Lithium disilicate ceramic offers superior aesthetics for front teeth. We discuss this during treatment planning.
