Digital X-Rays
WHAT IS DIGITAL X-RAYS?
What you cannot see can hurt you. Digital X-rays give us the full picture — safely and instantly.
Much of what matters most in oral health is invisible to the naked eye. Cavities forming between teeth, bone levels around roots, infections at root tips, impacted wisdom teeth, none of these can be detected through clinical examination alone. Digital dental X-rays are the essential diagnostic complement to every comprehensive exam at LUMI Dental in Boca Raton, providing high-resolution images of your teeth and bone structure with significantly less radiation than traditional film, and delivering results instantly for review during your appointment.
We use digital X-rays as a clinical tool, not a routine formality. We take X-rays when there is a clear diagnostic reason to do so, and we review the images with you at your appointment, explaining our findings in plain language. Our digital imaging system maintains a complete long-term record of every image taken, allowing us to compare current and previous images and detect subtle changes in bone levels, restorations, or tooth structure that would not be apparent in a single snapshot.
BENEFITS OF DIGITAL X-RAYS
- Up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays, safe for routine diagnostic use.
- Instant high resolution images available for review during your appointment.
- Detects cavities between teeth, bone loss, infections, and structural changes invisible to examination.
- Digital storage creates a permanent, comparable record for tracking oral health changes over time.
- Images can be shared electronically with specialists or other providers when needed.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING A DIGITAL X-RAYS TREATMENT?
Taking digital X-rays is quick and comfortable. A small sensor is placed in the mouth for each image and the exposure takes a fraction of a second. Images appear on our chairside screen immediately. We review them with you as part of the examination process, discussing findings as we go. We accommodate patients with a strong gag reflex or discomfort with intraoral sensors. X-ray frequency is determined by your individual risk factors, we do not apply a one-size-fits-all schedule.
OUR APPROACH TO DIGITAL X-RAYS
At LUMI Dental, diagnostic imaging is used thoughtfully. We take X-rays when they provide information that changes or informs the clinical plan, not as a default at every visit. We use the images as a teaching tool, showing you what we see and explaining what it means in terms you can understand. This transparency is a deliberate part of how we practice: we believe you should have access to the same information we are working from.

Your smile deserves attention today, not tomorrow.

VIEW ALL TESTIMONIALFrequently Asked Questions LUMI Dental
How often do I need dental X-rays?
Frequency depends on your individual risk factors. Most healthy adult patients receive bitewing X-rays annually and a full series every three to five years. Patients with active concerns may need more frequent imaging.
Are digital X-rays safe during pregnancy?
Routine X-rays are generally deferred during pregnancy except when clinically necessary. When taken, we use lead aprons and thyroid collars. We discuss this individually with pregnant patients.
What do dental X-rays detect?
X-rays detect cavities between teeth and under restorations, bone loss from gum disease, infections and abscesses, cysts, impacted teeth, and changes in root structure, all invisible to the clinical examination.
Do I need X-rays at every appointment?
Not necessarily. We take X-rays when there is a clinical reason to do so. The frequency is determined by your specific dental health status and history, not by a fixed routine.
Can I request copies of my X-rays?
Absolutely. Your dental records, including all images, belong to you. We provide copies on request, either digitally or in print, for personal records, insurance purposes, or transfer to another provider.
